Choose radios, autopilot, switches and displays by repeated workload, aircraft coverage and simulator integration.
Radios, autopilot controls, landing gear, flaps, trim and navigation selectors are strong physical-panel candidates because they are used regularly. A panel is less useful when it duplicates a switch that is rarely touched or when the aircraft family changes every flight.
Generic panels can be relabeled and reused across aircraft. Replica hardware can reproduce spacing, detents and muscle memory for one aircraft family. The cost of fidelity is lower flexibility and more physical space.
A panel may appear as a standard USB controller, depend on a driver, require a plugin or rely on aircraft-specific software. Verify the exact aircraft and simulator, not only the operating system. An illuminated display or annunciator can require a separate data path from the buttons and axes.
A physical toggle retains its position when a new aircraft or saved flight loads. The virtual switch may begin in the opposite state. Use momentary controls where appropriate, synchronize switches during a cockpit flow or use software that reads and reconciles the simulator state.
Instrument displays may use a browser, network feed, simulator plugin or dedicated driver. Check resolution, refresh, touch support and whether the main simulator PC must render the additional viewport. A bright display that cannot show the required aircraft data is not a useful panel.
Use modular enclosures, rails or panels with accessible fasteners. Label USB and power connections. Leave enough room to update firmware or replace one device without dismantling the cockpit.
